Wordle Ideas!

I have just found out about WORDLE. Those of you that knew about it, please post and share ideas of how you use it; those of you that didn't know about it (like me) have fun with it then share!

Here's a link to an article/blog with ideas for teachers about Wordle: http://www.techlearning.com/blogs/20322

This is a Wordle using the article/blog from the link above.

One of the first ideas that popped out for me was using a wordle for a character description in a story. Here's that entry:
Our teachers have used Wordle to describe characters in a story. The more prominent the characteristic, the larger the word appears in the Wordle. It's a great tool and it allows students to create something that looks totally different from any bullet list or generic document.

Here is a Wordle I created from a character description of Cinderella. You could display on SMART or screen then open the floor for discussion as students see words that pop out for them.

Vocab Idea

I was reading a book about math instruction and came across this idea called a math splash. Of course it was for a paper chart, but why not use wordle? This idea could also be used for any subject or grade level.

Math Splash-
Using the vocabulary words chosen, teachers "splash" the words across a chart, transparency, or a smartboard. Students use any prior knowledge of the words and what they know about the topic (unit, story, concept, etc.) to make predictions about the meaning of the words.

This can be done with wordle. Then at the end of the unit or lesson the students could also create their own wordle to summarize their learning.
